This class of Diesel locomotives were built in the late 1950s/Early 1960s. This example 03 179 was based on the Isle of Wight for many years before leaving in 1996. Entering preservation and immaculately restored,it has returned to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in 2025 for at least 10 x years.© Fuggletim

The Class A1 “Terriers” were designed by William Stroudly and built for the London Brighton and South Coast Railway (LBSCR) in the 1870s. Known for their diminutive size, distinctive exhaust and strength, several have entered preservation. This one spent a few bizarre years as a pub sign on the Mainland on Hayling Island!

Haven Street is a station on the preserved Isle of White Steam Railway. One of the (original) concrete station signs is seen here in festive attire with the Moon high above! On the former Southern Railway network in the UK there are still many examples of structures made with concrete at the famous, but now closed, Exmouth Junction works.

It’s late in the afternoon on a late Autumn/Early day in November and the low Sun creates a beautiful scene. This is Midhurst, a small town in West Sussex, England.

Seen from Farnham the combination of Moonlight, lamplight and a guest appearance of the planet Venus at about 45 x Degrees to the right of the Moon. Picture taken on a long exposure which sometimes causes light interference. Either that or the two green ghouls in the trees to the right of the Moon!

A South Western Railway Class 158 has arrived at Basingstoke from Exeter St David’s alongside a Cross Country Class 221 from Bournemouth on its way to Manchester Piccadilly.

The Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway runs along the Kent Coast from Hythe to Dungeness (almost 15 x miles). It is the world’s smallest public railway! This is locomotive Number 10 called Doctor Syn which has been in service since 1931. It is seen here at the end of the working day about to go “On Shed” for the night.

Like its counterpart at Haslemere, Petersfield Signalbox closed in October 2025 following the transfer of signalling control to Basingstoke. The Signalbox is seen here again on the last full day of operation in October 2025.

Haslemere is an intermediate Station on the rail route from London Waterloo to Portsmouth. As a part of the re-signalling, Haslemere Signalbox closed in late October 2025 with signalling now transferred to Basingstoke. The Signalbox at Haslemere had served for 130 x years and is seen here on the last full day of operation.
