  3. The Royal Oak is a legendary pub in the tiny hamlet of Hollywater in Hampshire (between Liphook and Whitehill). After being closed for over 2 x years, it re-opened in November 2023 and is again proving popular. The Sun is setting on New Years Eve 2023 and unfortunately heavy rain isn’t too far away, but let’s hope the Sun never sets again on the Royal Oak!

  20. An Island Line Class 484 has just left Ryde Esplanade on the way to meet the ferry at Ryde Pier Head. This unusual view is taken from Union Street in Ryde and shows a wet day across the Solent, but the city of Portsmouth is visible through the rain.

  31. Wight Ryder II arrives at Ryde Pier Head from Portsmouth Harbour, ready to go back with 23:10 sailing back from Ryde Pier Head. This is the last sailing of the day. The Covid pandemic affected public transport quite badly in the UK in 2020 and 2021 and mostly (but not all) it has returned to what it was in 2019, but it has been a slow process. In March 2023 Wightlink (the operator) restored a lot of its services lost during that terrible period for the world. The restoration of these services are VERY welcome!

  33. Winchester is the “County Town” of Hampshire (even though it is actually a City). This is the City’s Cathedral with the rather unique green roof of the Guildhall also in view. The Guildhall has always reminded me of the Town Hall in the 1960s children’s TV programme, “Trumpton!”
