The opposite side of the Basingstoke Rainbow, over the railway tracks. Is the crock of gold here at RAF Odiham appx 5 x miles away from where the rainbow appears to end?

A heavy shower has passed over Basingstoke and the setting Sun is now pitching in from the West producing this beautiful bright rainbow. Is the crock of gold inside the building? Sadly not!

Southern Portal of St Lawrence Tunnel on Isle of Wight.

The railway from Merstone to Ventnor was the first route to close on the Isle of Wight. The once quite scenic route last saw a train almost 70 x years to the day this picture was taken in September 2022. The pictures shows the Southern (Ventnor end) of St Lawrence Tunnel ( sometimes know as High Hat Tunnel) as it looks today.© Tim Penycate

Platform 6/7 at Guildford has a single track running through it. Herb Robert is a beautiful fragrant native wild flower in England and is slowly growing itself around one of the rails and covering up the litter people throw on the track.

A cold January evening on the Isle of Wight, sees two passengers waiting for the train back to Ryde from Brading on Island Line. As part of major upgrade work on Island Line, Brading Station has been upgraded to have 2 x operational platforms again for the first time since the late 1980s.

The Sun has not long risen and there is a hard frost on the ground at Aldershot Railway Station with Aldershot FC's stadium in the distance. A very thick fog descended and blanked this view out less than 1/2 hour after this picture was taken!

These tracks at Ascot Station in Berkshire used to connect through to the line from Guildford, but when the Station track layout was re-modelled in the 1960s, they became sidings for the berthing of trains on race days at the nearby Royal Ascot Racecourse. The sidings in turn fell out of use in the mid 1980s and nature is well and truly taking over some 35 x years later.

A Silver Birch has grown up through an old disused Station platform at Ascot Station in Berkshire. Although Ascot Station is still very much in use, this Platform has not seen a Train since the mid 1980s. Nature takes over!

From the album: Out and about in Somerset
...on the Strawberry Line (now National Cycle Network - route 26) running through North Somerset and Somerset, in the South West of England. You can just about make out the old platform ramp, almost buried beneath a lush growth of ivy, blackberries and all sorts of other wonderful plants! The Strawberry Line Trail currently runs from Yatton to Cheddar, mostly following the route of the old Strawberry Line Railway. There is an ongoing campaign to get the trail extended all the way to Shepton Mallet, via Wells is Somerset: Here you go...You can sign the petition, if you want! http://www.thestrawberryline.org.uk/index.php -
