PROJECT PROFILE

Title : Strengthening the Offshore Natural Resources and Marine Environmental Assessment Program of the DENR-MGB

Objective : The development and long-term objective of the project is to promote the development of offshore natural resources and assess the marine environmental quality through appropriate environmental assessment and control measures threby providing sustainability to resource uses. The main thrust is to build-up the MGB's capacity in marine environmental and natural hazard assessment and monitoring as well as offshore natural resource assessment.

Description : GGAP: The GOJ inputs are as follows - dispatch of experts, repair and retrofitting the RPS EXPLORER, acquisition of additional equipment/facilities for the RPS EXPLORER; marine environmental survey & monitoring, geoscientific research & exploration of selected areas (Lingayen Gulf, Offshore Marinduque, Isabel Leyte, Gumaos Bay/Davao Gulf); data processing, analysis, interpretation and integration of results; conduct of seminar and workshops.

Conducts marine and coastal geological and geophysical surveys and promote the development of marine mineral resources and geo-sciences. It operates and maintains the Bureau's marine vessel (RPS Explorer) and provides technical support services to the Regional Offices, other government agencies and mining contractors / permittees in connection with marine and coastal geological surveys.
