From the album: Davao del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines
A late afternoon view of one of the palayan (rice fields,) near to the Madilosa residence in Davao del Sur. The Madilosa's are a very kind family that I stay with whenever I get the chance to visit them at the farm that they work; in a remote village in Mindanao, in the Southern part of the Philippines. -

An evening twilight view, with a beautiful sunset reflected in the water of one of the palayan (rice fields,) near to the Madilosa residence in Davao del Sur. I don't know the name of the dog, but I call him "Scruffy!" Being taken for walks was quite a noval experience for him and, as you can see, he was really enjoying himself here! Carabao and farm worker plantsahin ('ironing,' or smoothing out the soil) in a palayan (rice field,) near to the Madilosa residence in Davao del Sur. "Plantsahin" is the final operation that uses a carabao (water buffalo) in the preparation of the palayan before transplanting the young rice seedlings. The Madilosa's are a very kind family that I stay with whenever I get the chance to visit them at the farm that they work; in a remote village in Mindanao, in the Southern part of the Philippines.-

The palayan is just about ready to be planted with young palay (rice seedlings;) which will be taken from a nursery bed. One of the farm-workers suggested this photo to me but I told him it was already too dark. Anyway, just to prove to him that my camera was not good enough for such a shot, I gave it a go... After a few attempts, I tried putting the ASA setting up to 400 and using a tree-trunk as a tripod. This was the final result. Not bad, eh? Just goes to show, you can learn about photography from a poor, provincial farm-worker who has probably never even held a camera in his life!! Oh, Here's one that I didn't burn... I know that most people will think it is a pretty corny painting but, who gives a damn?! I enjoyed doing it, and I like it! And, I have to admit, it was done mostly in Rembrandts... So why am I getting hot under the collar about Rembrandts? Because I have completely run out of my Schmingke SOFT pastels, I can't afford to order any more over the internet, at the moment - and I couldn't have done this... without them! ...Reason being that the above painting uses a lot of acrylic modeling paste, mixed with sand, in order to get the textures for the grass and the rocks. If you try to use anything other than a really soft pastel for this, when you try to cover up the sanded modeling paste, most of the pastel ends up as dust on the floor. And, if you are not careful, you can wear your fingers down to the bone!!
