If you are into arts or into planting, then this is the best thing for you. Aside from recycling you can also put paint on it and be creative. This quarantine got me so bored and our bin for bottles is full cause there is no collector of junk, so I decided to do something about it. The materials that you needed are plastic bottles, of course some root or plant if you want to transfer it; then optional - paint for the design -- Think green -- , then optional – paint for the design. You can save some money from buying a plant vase. These are the designs that I made, see photos below.2 points

That was me photographing the photographer! When I uploaded this, over 18 years ago, I referred to the photographer as an Old Japanese man. Now, at the time of writing, (October 2024), I am 66 years young myself! When editing this image description, I also realized that the Photographer could well be Korean, Vietnamese - or even an American Citizen, for all I know! So here we go, with an updated, (2024) description of this image... A spritely young man taking pictures of "sakura" (cherry trees) in full blossom, in the Peace Park outside the Atomic Bomb Museum in Nagasaki, Japan Photo taken in spring - (cherry blossom season - obviously!) - 2006© Photo by Vic Rolfe. These are actually wind turbines - not windmills!! They are designed and used for generating renewable energy in the form of electricity from the wind. As opposed to "windmills," which, as the name suggests, were used for milling grain in times gone by... -- got the information from wikipedia -- https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windmill Located at Tanay, Rizal1 point -

From the album: Some more recent pastel paintings
Another epic failure! Oh well... The hair turned-out quite nice, I suppose. I'm all out of leave again. I'll have one last attempt at making a half-decent portrait for Resley when I get back next time...1 point -

My first ever painting that was not based on a photograph! This is a purely fictitious scene that I just concocted-up in my imagination. It is supposed to be a view through an old country cottage window, somewhere in the South of England on a warm, sunny morning. The garden pool has some koi swimming around in it and the bench is just waiting for me to take out my coffee and sit on it to watch the koi! From the album: Have a go!
This is what my studio looks like. I find it ideal for pastel painting as the floor is tiled - so very easy to brush or mop clean. It has plenty of windows - so nice and bright with plenty of natural light and quite breezy, which is very important for me in the Philippines. Note the cheap plastic trays, mounted in a portable rack for storing my different colors - and the "angle-poise" lamp for working in the evenings...1 point -

From the album: Some more recent pastel paintings
My first attempt at a portrait of a friend of mine's niece. I done this during leave from my job in April, 2013. Unfortunately, the weather was extremely hot in the Philippines and I was in a bit of a rush to try and get this finished. I will probably try to make a few very minor adjustments when I get back home but I don't want to try to hard with this, as I will only end-up completely ruining it... Anyway, it is included here as this album is a collection of all my recent work - good, bad or indifferent! This was about my third attempt at painting a pastel portrait from a photo of a lovely Thai girl, called Tussinee. Each attempt was getting progressively worse than the previous. When I finally realized that I just wasn't in the mood for painting, I lost my patience with it and defaced the thing completely. Then again, when I looked at it, I just thought; "Hey! I'm going to keep this one!" This was the painting at the end of the second session. Just starting to add some detail and give it some form. At this stage, the painting is more like a childish colored crayon sketch - but I have high hopes for this one when it is finished!1 point -
From the album: Have a go!
This is the first stage of the painting. I made the background color scheme by blocking-in the main colors with soft pastels on heavy, course-grained watercolor paper - and then going over the different areas with clean water on a paint brush in order to make a watercolor wash effect. I am basing this painting on a really nice photo by Jim Winsor. http://www.facebook.com/jim.winsor.75 Photo used as reference material with Jim's very kind permission. The original photograph on which this painting will be based, can be down-loaded at: http://www.photoartf...ailway-cp-8856/ The photo was taken in October 2011 and Jim writes: "This was so far the most significant snowfall we have had yet this year. I braved the elements today to capture this rare for me image of such a beauty. I arrived at this location and it was dull and overcast which soon gave way to a lite blowing snowfall. This beauty could be heard off in the distance and low and behold out of the blowing snow she came."© © Jim Winsor

A not very good attempt at making a copy from a family photo. Never mind... I was quite happy with some of the background - and these things can only get better! (It also kept me out of any other kind of mischief for a while...) And here it is - the finished painting... As expected, when I was able to buy some Schmincke soft pastels, they adheared very well to the underpainting. Had I not had access to these ultra soft pastels, I would have had to abandon the painting at stage seven, when I probly would have destroyed the thing as I was not really satisfied with it... This is not a briliantly fantastic landscape but I am reasonably happy with it. I am not very good at this particular genre, (I much prefer doing portraits,) but this is probably the first half-decent landscape that I have managed to do. I enjoyed the challenge - and, hopefully, the next one will be better!1 point -

...showing a bit of attitude! A very strong character, this one! Jelyn is also a very pretty girl - something that this portrait in no way gives her justice... Anyway, I quite liked the way that her hair came out, so this painting was not a complete disaster. Soft pastels on Canson colored pastel paper - 18" x 12" (46cm x 31cm)1 point -
