Internationally renowned photographer David Noton very kindly gave me permission to use his photograph Portrait of a girl, Vang Vieng, Laos as the basis for a practise painting - and I did warn him that the results of my efforts would probably end-up bearing very little resemblance to his excellent photo. I wasn't wrong!! If you check-out the link, above, you will see that the subject of the photo was a child - whereas my feable attempt has made her look like a young lady. Still, even though this looks nothing like the girl in the photo, I kind of like her strange expression - and I did have fun trying with this one! 9. Brilliant! I love this!
  10. Latest count... 7 out of 8 birds here are blonde. And they are all smoking like chimneys!

  11. Interesting! I've never really thought much about that... I guess pretty much everything in human life is tribal, then. You've got to give your critic credit for his brazenness though! Then again, it's easy for people to insult others online. I suppose they think that the likelihood of getting a punch on the nose from someone on the other side of the country, or the world even, is pretty slim!?!!

From a photo of a friend. Sorry.. Not much good..! Anyway, I decided to upload it so at least you can have a good laugh! To be fair, this was a very small painting and I think I can do better when I get home and get back onto some nice big pieces of watercolor paper again..

This was my attempt at a fast-flowing stream... Pandak and Young Kalabaw I think I made the water a bit too foamy. Even a fast-flowing stream has some calmer, ripply bits. Next time I try to depict water, I'll give your technique a try and upload the results for critical comment!

I like the water effect... You have given me some ideas for my own medium - (soft pastels, rather than oil pastels) - but I think it should work just as well! ...Basically, doing the reflections and ripples as a maze of individual little blocks - rather than trying to scumble it all together - which is how I have tended to work with water so far.

Very nice! So how did the challenge on the other site go?
