A beautiful tropical sunset over the mountains of Zambales province in the Island of Luzon, Philippines I really love these kind of dramatic skies and the weird lighting that you get at dusk after a heavy downpour in the tropics Photo taken from on board the Global Marine Systems Ltd. cable ship, c.s. Cable Retriever, berthed at the SRF compound, Rivera Point, Subic Bay Freeport, Philippines - May, 20081 point

Framed Measurements: 38 x 26 inches Condition: Excellent Painted: 1980s This is an Oil Painting by Paco Gorospe, showing the city buildings on the top, Middle class houses on the centre and slum area near bottom by the sea/river and signed by Paco Gorospe on the bottom right of the picture. My dad was a very good friend of Paco. Whenever my dad went to Manila, they would meet up and have drinks with afew more close friends. Year 1988/1989, my dad visited his shop to choose a painting, my dad chose this painting which was in Paco's office hidden from outsiders. Paco said it was his favourite collection was reluctant to give it up and showed other pieces to lure my dad away from that piece. As my dad has an eye for fine art, eventually he gave in as he knows my dad appreciates fine arts and gave it to my dad heavy-heartedly. Paco told my dad, "You are one hard guy to bargain!" FYI, his studio was set on fire 2 times before he died in Sep 2002. Sources said this piece of art would fetch around 200,000 pesos on year 2008. So any idea how much does it cost now??1 point

If you think you are having a bad day, take a look at this. It is one of those real "Oh Shit!" moments in history! A bit of a disaster, this one... The blue things were a couple of heavy-lift gantry cranes at a shipyard on the Huang-Pu river, near Shanghai, China。 They have both toppled down onto a large container ship under construction in a dry-dock - and knocked the ship off its blocks and right across to the side of the dock. This photo was taken about 5 or 6 weeks after the incident and dismantling of one of the heavy lift gantry cranes is already underway. What they will do with the ship, I have no idea. (It may be possible to float it and get it back into the middle of the dock, after the wreckage of the gantry cranes has been removed? It could also be a complete write-off and they may even end-up having to break the ship up too, salvage what bits they can and start building a new one?) Whatever. This is one Chinese shipbuilding disaster that is going to cost a LOT of money!! Photo taken from on board c.s. Wave Venture, on passage down the Huang-Pu between Shanghai and Wusong - September, 2008 The container ship in the dry-dock is the Xin Fei Zhou1 point

The first light of dawn, as seen from the cable ship c.s. Cable Retriever, working on a submarine telecoms cable repair near Nasugbu, in the province of Batangas, Philippines - April, 2008 Nice warm tropical weather, calm seas and a beautiful sunrise... If it was like this all the time, everyone would want a job working at sea!!1 point

A glorious dawn, with the ship heading for home! This photo was taken from aboard c.s. Cable Retriever, on passage to Batangas after repairing a submaine telecoms cable deep under the sea, somewhere near Taiwan. The mountains in the background are inshore from the coast of Zambales, Northern Luzon. At the time this photograph was taken, (April, 2008) the ship was somewhere in the vicinity of Cabangan and San Felipe, South of Iba in the province of Zambales. Somewhere amongst those lofty peaks are Mount Quimalogong and Mount Pundillo Ni Lima1 point
