  1. From the album: Have a go!

From a photo of Mita Rani Das In the initial stage of the painting, I just roughly laid-out the general shapes and color scheme with soft pastels on a tough, course watercolor paper. Photo used as the basis for this painting with the very kind permission of Mita Rani Das

  3. From the album: Have a go!

The finished article. This is as far as I am going with this. If try to improve it, I will just end-up spoiling the painting. Anyway, I think it captures something of that beautiful locomotive blasting the snow away as it pulls a train through the first snowfall of winter.. I would just like to thank Jim Winsor for allowing me use his excellent photograph - to which this feeble attempt of mine does very little justice!

  5. From the album: Have a go!

This was the painting at the end of the second session. Just starting to add some detail and give it some form. At this stage, the painting is more like a childish colored crayon sketch - but I have high hopes for this one when it is finished!
  6. From the album: Have a go!

This is the first stage of the painting. I made the background color scheme by blocking-in the main colors with soft pastels on heavy, course-grained watercolor paper - and then going over the different areas with clean water on a paint brush in order to make a watercolor wash effect. I am basing this painting on a really nice photo by Jim Winsor. http://www.facebook.com/jim.winsor.75 Photo used as reference material with Jim's very kind permission. The original photograph on which this painting will be based, can be down-loaded at: http://www.photoartf...ailway-cp-8856/ The photo was taken in October 2011 and Jim writes: "This was so far the most significant snowfall we have had yet this year. I braved the elements today to capture this rare for me image of such a beauty. I arrived at this location and it was dull and overcast which soon gave way to a lite blowing snowfall. This beauty could be heard off in the distance and low and behold out of the blowing snow she came."

    Jarah

From the album: Some more recent pastel paintings

A pretty young girl making the victory sign. From a photo in Joharah Ruth Alonzo's facebook profile: www.facebook.com/prettyjoharah My apologies to Jarah for the hand... I would have tried to make a better job of this but I find if I try too hard to sort-out the mistakes, I just end-up ruining the thing altogether. ('Better to stop while the going is still good...) High quality prints of this image are available on paper, mugs, T-shirts and other gift items at: ArtWanted.com You can also download the original image file of this painting in the Downloads module of this site.

  11. The title to this entry is an allusion to the break-up of my first, slightly unsuccessful marriage - and my descent into the pits of hell with the second. That was all over ten years ago but, today, I find myself wondering why I devote so much time and energy, (never mind money,) to a bunch of websites... It costs me well over $US 400 a month, just to keep them "on air." I can only take so much of my paid job, so could this just be a diversion to keep me busy and keep my mind away from thinking about the past? Then there is the fact that I invariably, deliberately mess-up any kind of developing a relationship with the opposite sex. I certainly don't feel ready to get hooked again. Not just yet... Maybe not in the next ten years. Maybe when I am already dead?! Then there is the art. Making amateur art, without any kind of pressure to pay the bills with the proceeds, is quite a relaxing pass-time and, like the web sites, it does keep my mind occupied on mundane things. Sometimes though, it is a real struggle just to get motivated; pick-up a stick of pastel and make some kind of mess on a sheet of paper. Even that takes a real effort when I am not in the mood. It's just as well that I am not into oil painting... I'd never even get all that gear set-up!!
  12. Not boring... Stultifying.

  13. I found it OK once I clicked on an image and started scrolling through the artworks. My browser (Firefox 19.0) toned the background right down when I was scrolling through the images...

  17. From the album: Some more recent pastel paintings

The final version of my Feathery Head Dress painting. After I uploaded the earlier version, I realized that the ear looked awful, so I covered it up with an extension of the head band, to which the lower feathers are attached.
