  1. Funny... I thought the cold war was over 20 or 30 years ago.. So now, merchant seamen are being forced to extend their contracts against their will, over Christmas and with zero communications with the outside world. No internet. Not even allowed to call home. Now this job really sucks. Woops! Sorry! I'm not allowed to blab. It's all very military and very top secret!!! ...See you in January.

Just a quick pastel painting of a Filipina teenage girl, cellphone in-hand, texting away in the doorway of a rural cottage where I used to visit the family in the Southern Philippines. From one of my own photos. I don't know why but I can never seem to get the faces right on either of the two youngest sisters in that family...

    My Studio

From the album: Have a go!

This is what my studio looks like. I find it ideal for pastel painting as the floor is tiled - so very easy to brush or mop clean. It has plenty of windows - so nice and bright with plenty of natural light and quite breezy, which is very important for me in the Philippines. Note the cheap plastic trays, mounted in a portable rack for storing my different colors - and the "angle-poise" lamp for working in the evenings...

An attempt at copying a photograph of my youngest nephew, sitting on the grass in my Sisters lovely garden, with their two dogs.

  18. From the album: Some more recent pastel paintings

A not very good attempt at making a copy from a family photo. Never mind... I was quite happy with some of the background - and these things can only get better! (It also kept me out of any other kind of mischief for a while...) 20. In my opinion, $150 is way too low. That is art! You also have to think about how much your time is worth. If you subtract the cost of your materials, how much would your hourly rate be if you were to sell that wonderful painting at only $150? I have never sold a thing. I would rather give my stuff away than to sell it at a price that rates my time at only a couple of dollars an hour...
  21. That's great! Enjoy the site and I hope it proves useful to you.

  23. Great stuff. I love this! 'Just a sugestion but if you want to get more views on your art images, you could try updating the image titles and the descriptions. ("Image Moderation" -> "Edit Image") You can also put in a few tag words and frazes there, to make it easier for people to search your content - both using the internal site search script and also external search engines like Google and Yahoo!
