Culver Down is a cliff at the Eastern side of the Isle of Wight. Heavy rain over the city of Portsmouth (north of Culver and across the Solent) and sunshine from the Isle of Wight creates a rainbow over the cliff.

A short lived narrow gauge railway used to make its way across the Hogmoor Inclosure for military purposes. After closure and dismantling in the early years of the 20th Century, the route returned to nature, but is still clearly visible. Rowan Ash with berries, Oak and Scots Pine trees along with ferns and gorse now line the old route seen here looking towards the setting Sun.

Hogmoor Sunset and Bat Roost

The Hogmoor Inclosure is a beautiful area of heathland in Hampshire England which after years of military use, was given over to the local council in 2016. The Inclosure is the home to many protected species of animals and one of these are bats. This is the Hogmoor Bat Roost at Sunset on a beautiful late Summer’s evening. New Years Eve Sunset at the Royal Oak

The Royal Oak is a legendary pub in the tiny hamlet of Hollywater in Hampshire (between Liphook and Whitehill). After being closed for over 2 x years, it re-opened in November 2023 and is again proving popular. The Sun is setting on New Years Eve 2023 and unfortunately heavy rain isn’t too far away, but let’s hope the Sun never sets again on the Royal Oak!© Tim Penycate

Wightlink’s Car Ferry “Victoria of Wight” is sailing across the Solent from Portsmouth Gunwharf to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight. In the meantime the “Morning Post” belonging to the Eukor shipping line (a vehicle transporter) approaches from Southampton at the start of a long journey which will see her ultimately arrive in Durban, South Africa.
