About Me

  1. A South Western Railway service formed of Class 450 Desiro stock heads away from Petersfield towards Portsmouth with the South Downs in the distance on a beautiful late Spring evening. After a few miles, the train passes through a tunnel under the hill on the left.

  2. A Class 450 South Western Railway Desiro passes the River Wey water meadows at Godalming, Surrey on the way to Portsmouth.

  3. Gorse is a native shrub to the UK and grows mainly on heathland . The distinctive yellow flowers are very intensive and abundant this year! This is in the Hogmoor Inclosure in Hampshire, England.,

  4. This bridge across the River Wey is very interesting as it once housed 2 x Waterwheels which powered an old iron foundry. The foundry ceased operating in the 19th Century and there is little evidence now apart from this bridge and its abutments. Some old iron ore “slag” can still be found around the site, though. This is located at Hammer, a village where the county boundaries of Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire meet just outside Haslemere. The view is spoilt a bit by the water pipe crossing in front of the bridge (this is much more recent) and the author does not know where this pipe goes to or from.

  5. The power line across the Hogmoor Inclosure in Hampshire, England marches unrelentingly into the Sunset.

  7. There has been snow overnight in the English village of Grayshott on the Surrey/Hampshire border. The snow has passed and a beautiful sunny Winter morning has dawned. This picture shows the Parish Church of St Luke’s across the village green

  9. Holly, complete with berries is seen alongside Yew leaves. This picture was taken on Christmas Day in Hampshire, England.

  10. An English pub well known to both the author of this post and the owner of this website! Situated about 1.5 x miles from Bordon in Hampshire in Hollywater, the author has been coming here for over 42 x years. After a long period of closure between 2021 and 2023 it re-opened in November 2023 and this is an outside view on the first anniversary party in November 2024!

  11. Taken in Hampshire, Southern England on a Sunny Autumn morning, the sky is busy with flights heading West and East. Many of the vapour trails are Transatlantic flights but also many are heading to/from Spain according to “Flightradar.”

    Rainbow

Some unseasonably cold and wet days in the UK has seen heavy rain showers and strong Sunshine. A recent rain shower has passed and the Sun pitching in from the West creates a beautiful Rainbow above Whitehill in Hampshire. If there is truth about the “Crock of Gold” at the end of the Rainbow, then it is in the “Great Wall” Chinese takeaway! 😆

  13. The Hogmoor Inclosure is a beautiful area of heathland in Hampshire England which after years of military use, was given over to the local council in 2016. The Inclosure is the home to many protected species of animals and one of these are bats. This is the Hogmoor Bat Roost at Sunset on a beautiful late Summer’s evening. This location also appears in this gallery in a shot taken in 2020.

  14. A beautiful action shot of a Magpie caught on the Home CCTV of the author in Hampshire, England. Wonder if Alfred Hitchcock is interested! 😃

    Rain has Passed.

Several heavy rain showers have affected North Hampshire and Whitehill. The rain has passed, but the clouds that brought some of them are now backlit by the setting Sun. This picture is taken from the Bordon and Whitehill Relief Road which follows the course of the old Railway that used to pass through the area.

  16. The Royal Oak is a legendary pub in the tiny hamlet of Hollywater in Hampshire (between Liphook and Whitehill). After being closed for over 2 x years, it re-opened in November 2023 and is again proving popular. The Sun is setting on New Years Eve 2023 and unfortunately heavy rain isn’t too far away, but let’s hope the Sun never sets again on the Royal Oak!

  17. The Sun is seen rising over Fanum House (AA HQ) on a cold January morning in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England.

  18. The “Great Oak” is an iconic Petersfield landmark which now sits between a hotel of the same name and a branch (no pun intended) of McDonalds. The setting sun is seen between the branches setting across the South Downs at Butser Hill.

  19. A sprig of holly with its berries in the Hogmoor Inclosure in Hampshire on Christmas Eve 2023. Can anyone spot the Pug?

    Freezing Fog!

The temperature across North Hampshire has been sub zero for several days, and the freezing fog has frozen the cobwebs on this road sign in Whitehill! Hope the spider is ok!

  22. Whitehill is a village in Hampshire, England and part of a small town called Bordon. This shots shows a contrast of the street lighting and a “Supermoon” rising to the South.

  23. The River Wey rises in the North at Alton and the South in Haslemere and combine in Tilford near Farnham before flowing into the River Thames at Weybridge. Here at Hammer Vale (about 2 x miles from source in Haslemere), the South Wey flows quite heavily swollen by recent heavy rainfall).

  24. Winchester is the “County Town” of Hampshire (even though it is actually a City). This is the City’s Cathedral with the rather unique green roof of the Guildhall also in view. The Guildhall has always reminded me of the Town Hall in the 1960s children’s TV programme, “Trumpton!”

    Frozen Cobwebs

A prolonged period of sun zero temperature with the threat of snow has been over Hampshire for several days now! These are frozen cobwebs on a set of traffic lights!
