I just checked the link and I am glad to see that the Photography School Asia website is still going.
I'd love to give one of their courses a try some day...

The latest rank names are as per the attached screenshot. (These are now based on total post count anywhere in the site - not just in the Forums as they were for a long time...)
There is now a block on the homepage that shows the most popular contributors in terms of the number of "likes" that they have received, (minus any "down-votes,") throughout the site - not just in the Gallery.
I haven't figured out how to do that Gallery Rank thing yet... Let me work on it!

Further to the above, I would definitely advise against using a flash - unless you can bounce it off one of those big umbrella-shaped light diffusers, or something.

One of the best sites... awesome.
Thank you Ivo! It's nice to know that all of my work over the last few weeks wasn't completely wasted! We just need a few more Member reactions and some feedback to recently posted images in the Gallery... Then we will be cooking on gas!!

...Activity attracts activity!
So true...
I have recently spent a phenomenal amount of time and effort - and not a little money - on getting artfreaks.com updated. So now, I am really looking forward to seeing some more activity on this site!

You can preview the book on Google Books.
Just search for:

It's also available on Amazon.com in both Kindle and paperback formats.

I just bought the Kindle version of the book.
Having downloaded the free, I had just read the index when realized that I needed to know what Stephen Hawking's take on Artificial Intelligence (or AI) was. (So out went the sample and in came the full version of the book...)
Since Stephen's passing away, there have been some quite dramatic advancements in machine learning and AI.
At the moment, it is all the rage.
But Stephen Hawking has a few words of caution... and I quote from the book:
"It’s tempting to dismiss the notion of highly intelligent machines as mere science fiction, but this would be a mistake, and potentially our worst mistake ever."

Work sucks but being out of a job or without work, (if you are self-employed,) sucks even more...

Belated apologies for taking 8 months to respond, Slightly art-freakish! So true: "Very few human beings are open to new ideas that conflict with their deep core of beliefs." Eventually, though, as the sociologist Max Weber theorized in his sociology of religion, a secular ethic becomes spiritualized and a new world religion becomes dominant.-Ron Price, Tasmania

Please feel free to take eight years to respond - as long as you come back to artfreak.com some day. We miss you!

Hey Vic,
Those steps of a commencement are an infant steps towards a published book, a thesis if you will.
It is totally amazing,
It is a SPECIAL EDITION because of the immense space from its emergence.
Am very humbled in that continuing journey.
Best regards to you and the family.
Eduardo
Have you got any news on the book for us yet, Eduardo?
So what have you been up too lately?

Wow! I didn't realise that you can get premium quality soft pastels on Amazon.com...!!
I like Amazon. I have only really ever bought books from them, in the past... I've never had a problem. Those books that I have bought from them have always been delivered on time - (or, very often, in advance of the estimated delivery date) - and in perfect condition.
Also, as an affiliate, they have always been very good to me... Even when artfreaks.com had been suffering and referrals dropped to nothing from one month to the next, they never even hinted at terminating our agreement.
So yes, I like Amazon!
And I am very pleased to see that aside from the Schmingke Soft Pastels and the beautifully boxed sets of Sennelier Soft Pastels that I referred to in the previous post to this topic, I can even order my all-time favourite soft pastels from them...
Unison is a true soft pastel. Very nice to work with. But what I like the most is the super vibrancy of some of their colours... Some of them even seem to have an almost fluorescent glow!
The company that makes Unison Soft Pastels is a fairly small enterprise and it is based in the UK.
If I remember correctly, I first came across their wonderful pastels in an art shop in the city of Bruges. I have also seen them in Victoria B.C., Canada so they do seem to be exporting them around the world. And, of course, you can always get hold of them at Amazon.com!
You can check out the Unison Colour website here:

Catch 22, The Choir Boys and, of course, Lord of the Rings are three more of the unforgettable books that I have read in my life.
All of these are due for a re-read when I get old and retired - and I have the time...
(Or, before - if I ever master the art of speed reading!!)

The camerawoman behind the camera!
artfreaks.com member Chai, is now a very busy camerawoman... She leads a rather hectic life and her work takes her all around the world. Chai was the camerawoman behind the Youtube clip below. This one is hot off the press from Hong Kong - and now, she tells me that she is already in Malaga!!
Apparently, this is a Youtube show about the Fintech Finance Payments Race: ‘Round the World 2019. It's mostly what they call "corporate advertainment", apparently... Four contestants, each with the same budget have to make it around the world using only ONE payment method for everything; cash, card, mobile payment or cryptocurrencies.
Chai is filming one of the contestants here, in Hong Kong - and the pair of them seem to have been having a wonderful time!!

2005!! Now that's a blast from the past! Back in the good old days when artfreaks.com was actually doing quite well...
I have just been clearing out some old guff and a load of old spam from the forums - which was posted years ago when I was busy with my day job and I just didn't have the time to deal with it. This inane post should have gone the same way but I am a sentimental old fellow and I just couldn't bring myself to erase this little bit of internet history!!

If anyone is actually making any money out of selling their art - and especially if they are making a living at it, then I would love to hear from you!
Personally, I just do it for fun. But, then again, it would be rather nice to get a little bit of beer money for all of my efforts!!

Ah, OK!! Thanks for that. ('Looks like a minor typo in the topic title, then...)
I was just trying to get some activity going in the forums... Don't ask me why but for some reason, the image view counters and a whole lot of other stuff with the site will not update unless we get some activity by logged-in members in the forums?
I have been told by the developers of the software on which the site runs, that I can set up some "cron jobs" on the server. Whatever that means?!! But that sort of stuff is all a bit over my head...
I have also been busy in the forums deleting some old dead and spammy links. Apparently, Google doesn't like that sort of stuff. (It's probably one reason why artfreaks.com has all but disappeared off the radar...) I've got a lot of work to do there, as the site has been around for quite a while now and it accumulated a lot of junk in the past.
We will get there in the end!

Well, let's not go down the same road that we have with our cellphones - where they are starting to rule our lives.
We need to make sure that what we create serves us - not the other way around...
