  1. It is 05:30 in the morning and Dawn is breaking in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. Looking towards Ryde St John’s Road from the Ryde Tunnel exit, the “Distant” signal helps guard the approach to Ryde St John’s Road. The train service will not be commencing on this Sunday morning for nearly another hour.

  6. Class 47 Diesel Electric 47 529 James Nighthall GC pulls away from Ropley with the 15:45 service to Alton with a huge cloud of exhaust smoke! This picture is at the Watercress Line in Hampshire on one of the ever popular “Days out with Thomas” events! “Thomas the Tank Engine” is just to the right of the picture!

  7. The final train of the day on Island Line (formed of Class 484 005) shunts towards the Depot at the close of service. A wonderfully atmospheric picute capturing the lamplight around Ryde St John’s Road and the Moon partially obscured by clouds.

  8. Royal Carribean’s “Independence of the Seas” passes and dwarfs “No Man’s Land Fort” in the Solent. It is sailing from Southampton to Bilbao and then around Spain before returning to Southampton in a few days time.

  10. Gloucester Docks is more of a residential, entertainment and retail location as opposed to its original commercial purposes. This is one of the many warehouses on the site taken from the West Bank of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal.

  11. Much of the docks in Gloucester are residential, retail or entertainment venues nowadays. This view looking South towards Bristol sees the lightship “Sula” (now holiday accommodation and the High Orchard Lifting Bridge.

    A Dive in Vain!

The Badshot Lea Goalkeeper dives in vain to save the ball entering the net. His face says it all and this was the first of six goals scored by Aldershot Town on a hot, sunny July afternoon. This was a “Pre -Season Friendly” fixture.

  17. Always a great view, and particularly after a long days work! It would be easy to remove the dock fence post and railings from the shot, but I think it gives depth to the image.
  18. I really thought the cloud swirls looked really good. I was going to crop the picture but thought ultimately the street light and house lighting added to the atmosphere. 🙂
  19. Ivatt Class 2 Tank 41313 runs around its train at Smallbrook Junction after arriving from Wooton on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

  22. Unfortunately the photographer didn’t record which vessel this was but it is either Wight Ryder I or Wight Ryder II on the 20:20 Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier sailing. The Sun is setting on a hot day and the Solent is a perfect calm.

  23. Most of the Hogmoor Inclosure in England is in early twilight, but a shaft of Sunlight still pitches in from the West from the low Sun. This phenomena occurs in a particular part of the forest due to the geography of the hills and building to the West and the slight incline of the path into the forest. If you were of such belief, you could think this is an entrance to an enchanted fairy kingdom!

  24. It is almost 23:00 hrs and the Sun set almost 2 x hours previously. However the sky is still bright and the Sun below the horizon lights the clouds. This contrasts with the street lighting and house lighting in Hampshire, England.
