  1. Camber Dock is in Portsmouth a city on the South Coast of England. It is an important military and commercial port, and the home of the UK’s Royal Navy. In this shot from Camber Dock, the landmark Spinnaker Tower, Ben Ainslie Sailing Centre, Gunwharf Ferry Terminal and the wonderful Bridge Tavern can be seen against the backdrop of the passing storm clouds. High tide is also approaching as can be seen by the water levels in the Dock.

    Goal in the FA Cup!

Bath City appeal in vain for a “Handball” offence in their 2-1 defeat to Aldershot Town in the FA Cup at Aldershot. This was Aldershot’s first goal of the afternoon and the tie was won in the 8th minute of stoppage time with Aldershot’s second goal. The FA Cup is the oldest “Knockout” football competition in the world having been founded in the 19th Century. This is also the first time Aldershot have met Bath City in a “Senior” game and the first time an Aldershot side have met a Bath City side in any competition since 1939!

  9. Looking towards the town of Gosport from the Round Tower beach in Portsmouth (at the Harbour mouth) the Sun is setting putting the old Diving Tower into silhouette. The Isle of Wight and Haslar Hospital can be seen in the background.

  10. Gunwharf is a former naval facility in Portsmouth which has been rebuilt as a shopping and recreational centre. The Spinnaker Tower is an iconic sight along the South Coast and here we see the Sunset silhouetting both the tower and one of the original naval cranes.

Played to the same rules as Ice Hockey, but on skates, this is an action shot from Mustangs 5-4 victory over Oxford Blue. This was played at Bisley in Surrey, England!

  15. The site of Wroxall Station between Shanklin and Ventnor was closed in 1966 and the railway lifted. All that remains now the bridge carrying Castle Street over the old railway and part of the Station buildings (not seen and behind the photographer).
  16. Under an old bridge on the Red Squirrel Trail, two old “Chairs” that once held rails onto sleeper now rust away in silence.
  17. The Red Squirrel Trail is a cycleway and footpath on the Isle of Wight. Between Shanklin and Wroxall the path follows the old railway (which closed in 1966) before diverting away. Sadly the remaining old railway route onto the terminus in Ventnor is largely inaccessible and/or built over.
  18. On the Red Squirrel Trail just outside Shanklin, a long disused Fogman’s Hut stands on the approach to Shanklin where the “Distant” Signal would have stood. In foggy weather, the Fogman would place an audible explosive device called a “Detonator” on the rails to warn the Driver of a train they were approaching a “Stop Signal.” This type of regulation ceased on the British railway network many years ago, but there are many of these old huts still standing!
  19. Returning to Havenstreet Shed on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway for a short break from train working and re-coaling.
