  1. One of the engineering marvels of the old Great Western Railway is Box Tunnel between Chippenham and Bath. At 3212 X Yards long, it was once the longest railway tunnel in the world and was designed by the famous engineer Brunel. Work started in 1836 and the tunnel opened in 1841.

  2. This is the old Farnham/Alton bound Platform at Ash Green (The Station is now a private house but this Platform is outside of the boundaries) looking towards Farnham. No passengers have used this Platform (Apart from an occasional Railtour) for 77 x years now (at the time of writing).

  3. Once a busy route between London Waterloo and Alton (via Guildford) closed in 1937. A faster more direct route from London to Alton (and beyond) via the rapidly expanding nearby military base of Aldershot in 1870 and reduced the importance of the route via Ash Green and Tongham. The route was truncated in the 1950s and closed completely in 1960. The route now forms part of the “Christmas Pie Trail” (named after a local village of that name)!

  4. Gwendoline is one of the cats that lives at the author’s house in the Philippines. She is about 5 x years old and despite the intensive glare is an actually a friendly girl and the most responsive of all the cats that live there.

    Rainbow

Some unseasonably cold and wet days in the UK has seen heavy rain showers and strong Sunshine. A recent rain shower has passed and the Sun pitching in from the West creates a beautiful Rainbow above Whitehill in Hampshire. If there is truth about the “Crock of Gold” at the end of the Rainbow, then it is in the “Great Wall” Chinese takeaway! 😆

    Rain has Passed.

Several heavy rain showers have affected North Hampshire and Whitehill. The rain has passed, but the clouds that brought some of them are now backlit by the setting Sun. This picture is taken from the Bordon and Whitehill Relief Road which follows the course of the old Railway that used to pass through the area.

  8. A distant and very isolated electrical storm produces lightning which creates a silhouette of a palm tree.

  9. As with the previous picture, this is another view of Cebu City by night shortly after Sunset. Both pictures are taken from the top floor of the Raddison Blu Hotel in the City!

  10. Cebu City is regarded as the second city of the Philippines after Manila. Still frenetic, but not quite like Manila and a great place to visit!

  11. Much of the PNR system (although not all) has closed down for 5 x years for major re-building and refurbishment. Tutoban Station is the main rail terminal in Manila and this is a view of the approach to the Station and the Depot outside.

    W Building

This is the “W Building” in Bonafacio Global City with its iconic “Staircase” of lights!

  13. The hottest day ever in Manila in April 2024 draws to a close but leaves a stunning sunset across Bonafacio Global City.

    Cumulus Nimbus

The hottest day on record in Manila in April 2024 sees a huge thunderstorm building to the North of the city. Unfortunately it came to nothing and the city went on sweltering. This view from Bonifacio Garden City appears to show a flying saucer, but it is likely a reflection of a light from within the building where the picture was taken.

  15. The Sun has set and a lazy moon is on its back. This is the scene from Robinson’s Plaza in Lipa City, Philippines. Maybe someone should fix the sign on the plaza!

  16. Taken from the Waterfront at Balete, Batangas in the Philippines, the Sun sets over the Taal Volcano and lake. Few people seem to be aware of what a wonderful location Balete is to witness this daily show.

  17. Taal in the Philippines is an active volcano. She gives a reminder with a puff of steam that she is only sleeping!

  20. A familiar view of Camber Dock in Portsmouth with the MV Victoria of Wight in the distance waiting to sail on the 17:00 departure to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight. In the foreground, waiting its next sailing is the MV St Claire with the iconic Spinnaker Tower visible to the right, and the Ben Ainslee sailing centre to the left ( or should that be “Starboard” or “Port”)?

  21. A wonderfully cluttered view of Camber Dock in Old Portsmouth! Local fishing vessels jostle with Wightlink ferries against the backdrop of the wonderful Bridge Tavern, Ben Ainslie Sailing Centre and the iconic lipstick shaped Number 1 Gunwharf Quays tower block.

  22. This is the Keep of Guildford Castle in Surrey, South East England, which was established in the 13th Century and was the County Gaol for many years until at least the 18th Century. Although the earthworks remain, many of the castle features have now vanished, but the Keep remains.

  23. Guildford is regarded as the “County Town” of the County of Surrey in South East England. This view is taken from the ruins of Guildford Castle and looks across the town to the Cathedral on Stag Hill around 2 x miles away. Guildford is often mistakenly considered as a city as it has a Cathedral, but although the granting of city status has been applied for in the past, the Royal Warrant has never been given.

Aldershot miss a Penalty, but still go on to beat Oldham Athletic 2-0 in the Conference National League! Oldham Athletic were founder members of the Premier League in 1992 but now play 5 x Divisions lower.

    Ryde Pier

An Island Line Class 484 has just left Ryde Esplanade on the way to meet the ferry at Ryde Pier Head. This unusual view is taken from Union Street in Ryde and shows a wet day across the Solent, but the city of Portsmouth is visible through the rain.
